All about Goodstart Early Learning

Goodstart Early Learning is a charitable consortium, involving Mission Australia, the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Benevolent Society and Social Ventures Australia which runs a large number of centres across Australia as non-profit chain.

History

ABC Developmental Learning Centres (ABC) dates back to around 1988 and was at one the the largest chain of childcare centres in Australia, having acquired the majority of competing groups.

In November 2008, ABC went into receivership. The receivers identified a core group of over 700 centres have been identified as 'profitable', closed around 50 centres, with the attending children offered places at nearby centres and the remainder of centres were found to be 'unviable under the current business model' and sold individually.

In December 2009, the 'viable' centres were bought by be a consortium of non-profit organisations, including Mission Australia, the Benevolent Society, Social Ventures Australia and the Brotherhood of St Laurence. The consortium is known as 'Goodstart Early Learning'.
